About the role

The Lead Database Expert for CPQ Capability plays a critical role in streamlining the sales process, ensuring quote accuracy, and enabling scalable, data-driven business operations through robust and optimized data management

As a Database Expert involved in Transformation, you will modernize and optimize data platforms across RDBMS, document-based, and multi-model systems. You’ll support key business applications like CPQ and pricing, while enabling AI-ready data structures for Agentic and Generative AI use. This role combines deep technical expertise with hands-on delivery to build scalable, cloud-ready data solutions

About you

We are seeking a skilled Lead for Database Engineering to join the Digital unit at Orange Business. As a Database Expert, you will lead the design, optimization, and transformation of enterprise data platforms spanning traditional relational databases (RDBMS), document-based databases, and multi-model solutions. You will play a key role in modernizing legacy data architectures, enabling scalability, performance, and flexibility for evolving business applications—especially in CPQ, catalog management, and pricing platforms. Your mission includes driving data architecture best practices, ensuring data integrity, and aligning database technologies with business goals in a cloud-native and AI-ready environment.

Activities and Responsibilities
•    Design and implement modern, scalable data architectures to support transformation initiatives across CPQ, product catalog, and pricing systems.
•    Lead the migration and modernization of legacy RDBMS systems (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL) to modern cloud-based or hybrid architectures.
•    Architect and optimize document-based databases (e.g., MongoDB, Couchbase) for use cases involving dynamic product models, pricing rules, and configuration data.
•    Implement and manage multi-model database platforms (e.g., ArangoDB, Azure Cosmos DB) to support diverse workloads and integrated data views.
•    Define and enforce data modeling standards, including normalization, denormalization, and schema evolution strategies for structured and semi-structured data.
•    Collaborate with application architects, developers, and business analysts to align data models with application logic and performance requirements.
•    Develop robust ETL/ELT pipelines, enabling smooth data integration across systems and ensuring consistency in multi-environment deployments.
•    Apply performance tuning and indexing strategies to improve query efficiency and database responsiveness across large and complex datasets.
•    Ensure data quality, governance, backup, and disaster recovery mechanisms are in place for mission-critical systems.
•    Support data security and compliance initiatives, including role-based access control, encryption, and auditing.
•    Guide the selection and evaluation of database technologies as part of the enterprise technology roadmap.
•    Enable integration with Agentic AI and Generative AI platforms by structuring data for efficient semantic access and AI-assisted insight generation.
•    Provide leadership and mentoring to junior database engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Key Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Technical Expertise
•    Deep hands-on expertise in RDBMS platforms: Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL.
•    Strong experience in document-based databases: MongoDB, Couchbase, Amazon DocumentDB.
•    Knowledge of multi-model databases: ArangoDB, Azure Cosmos DB, OrientDB, MarkLogic.
•    Experience with data migration, schema transformation, and data virtualization.
•    Proficiency in SQL, NoSQL, stored procedures, indexing, sharding, and partitioning.
•    Familiarity with cloud-native data services (e.g., Azure SQL, AWS Aurora, Google Cloud Spanner).
•    Exposure to data pipelines, ETL tools, and streaming platforms (e.g., Apache Kafka, Azure Data Factory).
•    Understanding of AI-driven analytics and data structuring for Agentic AI applications and Gen AI integrations.
