About the role

Role Summary

We are looking for an experienced Solution Lead to join our team in Shanghai. This is a growth-oriented, customer-facing role. You will engage customers early, often well before a formal tender, to understand their data center needs and shape the right solution. You will then act as the customer's trusted solution lead from first conversation through handover. With customers increasingly planning data centers for AI workloads, you will bring a practical understanding of how AI changes data center design and fit-out.

You own the technical integrity of what we propose and what we deliver: setting the design, standards and quality gates, and giving technical governance to the delivery teams so that what is delivered matches what was agreed with the customer.

Key Responsibilities

1. Growth & Early Customer Engagement

  • Engage customers and prospects early in their data center journey (new build, fit-out, expansion, cabling and power upgrades) to uncover needs and open opportunities ahead of formal procurement.
  • Open conversations on the AI readiness of customers' facilities: whether existing sites can support higher-density AI and GPU workloads (power, cooling, floor loading, cabling), and which retrofit or new-build options fit.
  • Partner with sales and account teams to qualify opportunities, shape the approach and provide credible solution content for proposals and bids.
  • Build and maintain relationships with customer stakeholders, from engineering teams to senior management.
  • Feed customer and market insight back to the practice to sharpen our data center offerings.

2. Trusted Solution Lead for the Customer

  • Act as the customer's single point of technical accountability from discovery through handover.
  • Translate customer business and operational requirements into a clear solution: scope, design approach, standards, assumptions, risks, and indicative effort and cost.
  • Present and defend the solution to technical and management audiences in both English and Chinese.
  • Manage expectations and resolve technical disagreements constructively, with a strong customer service attitude.

3. Solution Design & Shaping

  • Define the data center fit-out and infrastructure solution, including DC cabling, cabinet deployment, cable tray installation, hot/cold aisle containment, and electrical systems.
  • Review supplier-designed UPS and main power distribution systems for suitability, constructability and risk.
  • Assess construction workflows, civil works dependencies and contractor coordination at the proposal stage, so that commitments made to the customer are realistic and deliverable.
  • Define the points where the solution interfaces with network infrastructure.
  • Shape AI-ready data center designs: high-density rack layouts, power and cooling capacity and redundancy, liquid cooling options (such as direct-to-chip or rear-door heat exchangers), floor loading, and structured cabling for high-bandwidth AI clusters.
  • Advise customers on phased options, for example retrofitting existing halls versus building dedicated AI zones, balancing cost, timeline and risk.

4. Technical Governance for Delivery

  • Act as design authority: baseline the agreed solution, approve design changes, and make sure delivery matches what was sold.
  • Set technical, quality and Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) standards, and hold quality gates at key milestones including installation readiness, testing, commissioning and handover.
  • Extend design standards, testing and commissioning checklists to cover higher-density and liquid-cooled deployments, including the additional safety considerations they introduce.
  • Support delivery project managers with technical escalations, on-site problem solving and risk reviews, and run periodic technical reviews of active projects.
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations, company policies and quality standards.
  • Capture lessons learned and turn them into reusable reference designs and standards for the team.

5. Vendor & Partner Ecosystem

  • Manage vendor and supplier partnerships, including technical evaluation and selection input.
  • Oversee the technical performance of suppliers, main contractors and specialist subcontractors against agreed design and quality standards.

About you

Skills & Experience

Domain expertise

  • Minimum 5 years' professional experience in data center infrastructure projects. Proven experience in large Chinese hyperscalers' data center projects will be preferred.
  • Solid hands-on implementation experience in data center electrical systems. Able to fully understand supplier-designed overall UPS and main power distribution systems.
  • Proficient in full-range data center fit-out works, including cabinet deployment, cable tray installation and hot/cold aisle containment construction.
  • Familiar with data center construction workflows and management standards, with strong capability to coordinate civil works, main contractors and various professional subcontractors.
  • Basic knowledge of network infrastructure is advantageous.
  • Working understanding of how AI and GPU workloads change data center fit-out and design: much higher rack power density, liquid and hybrid cooling, higher floor loading, more demanding power and cooling redundancy, and high-bandwidth cabling for AI clusters.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline.

Customer and communication skills

  • Strong customer-facing and communication skills, with the confidence to engage senior customer stakeholders.
  • Fluent in both spoken and written English and Chinese (Mandarin).
  • Good customer service attitude and conflict management skills.
  • Excellent cross-team communication capabilities, working across sales, delivery, vendors and customers.

Personal attributes

  • Proactive and self-motivated: opens conversations and creates opportunities rather than waiting for them.
  • Independent and disciplined, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Excellent on-site problem-solving and independent management capabilities.
  • Willing to travel on short notice.

Advantageous

  • Experience in solution design, pre-sales or bid support for data center projects.
  • Experience reviewing or governing the work of other project teams or contractors.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted data center operations, such as DCIM and AI-based monitoring and optimization of power and cooling.
  • Exposure to AI infrastructure vendors' reference designs and facility requirements for GPU-based deployments.

Certifications

The certifications below are preferred rather than mandatory. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.

Area

Certification

Why it matters

Enterprise architecture

TOGAF Foundation or Certified (preferred)

Links data center design decisions to the customer's wider IT and business architecture, and supports credible discussions with senior stakeholders.

Data center design

Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer (ATD) or Accredited Tier Specialist (ATS); CDCP or CDCS

Shared language with customers on resilience, tier design and operational standards.

Safety and HSSE

NEBOSH, IOSH or an equivalent recognized safety qualification

Supports the HSSE standard-setting and quality-gate responsibilities of the role.

Project governance

(optional)

PMP or PRINCE2

Helps govern the plans and risk reviews of delivery project managers. This role does not carry day-to-day project management.

AI infrastructure (optional)

Vendor AI infrastructure training or certification, for example from NVIDIA

Practical grounding in the AI cluster requirements that drive fit-out and design.
